Proposal and validation of a design procedure for concentrically braced frames in the chevron configuration

In the recent past, several research studies have highlighted that prescriptions reported in codes for design of structures with concentric braces chevron configuration are often not effective preventing yielding or buckling non-dissipative members and ensuring collapse mechanisms characterised by uniform damage braces. To investigate reasons these deficiencies, this paper seismic response concentrically braced designed according to procedures literature European code is first examined. Then, a new procedure proposed, which innovative aspects mainly related estimation bending moments columns formulation requirements on stiffness beams columns. The impact proposed structural costs computed large number buildings different occupancy types geometric properties. performance evaluated incremental nonlinear dynamic analysis discussed at achievement significant near-collapse limit states.
